ABOUT US

L.A.M.P. Micro-School is a small, private, nonprofit school offering a different academic environment for families that want a more individualized curriculum for their children.  Our program allows a curriculum more specific for each child, so it is much like homeschooling, but in a classroom setting.  Our desire is to nurture the individual potential in each child, which is why we specialize in teaching Orton-Gillingham based reading programs, especially critical for dyslexic students.  It is crucial that ALL children have a chance to learn to read, including the 15-20% of the children with dyslexic learning styles.  We will work together with families to create a plan for each student, focusing on areas of strengths and weakness, while designing a successful path for each child's educational growth.  We accept children based on availabe space, student needs, and a family meeting.  It is important that our school environment is the correct fit for your family.  We are Christian teachers and will openly share our faith throughout a school day.   As Paul stressed spiritual unity to the Philippians, so too we are asking our school families, to love one another and work together with one heart and purpose.

What We Believe

PHILOSOPHY: All children are created as unique individuals by God and must have a stimulating and safe educational environment where they can grow not only academically, but also spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. We work to assist our students in accepting who they are and how they are designed, embracing their individual strengths and weaknesses while also accepting and respecting the uniqueness of others around them.  We specialize in teaching Barton Reading and Spelling which is appropriate for all students, however, is an Orton-Gillingham based method used to successfully teach the dyslexic learning style.

We believe there are 5 essential elements that are conducive to learning.

1.The teacher’s role is to act as an educator, a mentor and a guide.

2.Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe, non-threatening environment where they can make mistakes.

3.Students must have access to curriculum choice as well as hands-on learning activities.

4. Students' voices should be heard and help to direct their learning activities.

5.Tools and technology must be incorporated into the school day, allowing access to the curriculum for ALL students.

Each classroom has its own unique community; and our role as teachers will be to assist each child in developing their potential and discovering their learning styles. We will present curriculum incorporating as many learning styles as possible and make the content as relevant to the students’ lives as we can. We do this by incorporating hands-on projects and themes, cooperative learning and individual work that engages them in the learning process. Ultimately, we want to create a passion and desire for LIFELONG LEARNING.

Our Mission

Our mission at LAMP Micro-School is to empower children with dyslexia to reach their full potential through individualized, multisensory education in a nurturing and inclusive environment.  We strive to provide our students with the tools and support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, while fostering a lifelong love of learning.

Our History

Fall of 2019 was our first year officially as L.A.M.P. Micro-School in Maine.  We have evolved into this school, from our other organization, Project D.E.B.U.N.K.  Our director, Linda Goodness, is a Certified Barton Reading and Spelling tutor as well as a dyslexia screener.  Linda has been working with children for over 35 years, beginning in high school, as a lifeguard, swim instructor and recreation specialist at the Brewer Recreation Department in the 1980's.  She also has experience as a kindergarten teacher aid, preschool teacher, director of a preschool, teacher aid in 3rd and 4th grade, resource teacher K-12th grade, and 3rd grade teacher.  Linda had homeschooled periodically her 3 wonderful children.  As a dyslexia advocate, she and her son began Project D.E.B.U.N.K., doing teacher workshops and uniting kids in our state and nationally at group functions with mentors.   Linda and her family worked together to advocate and pass a new state law to screen for dyslexia early in our schools.  In the fall of 2018, Linda returned to the classroom.  After tutoring for years, it has become clear that children need teachers IN the classrooms that understand the students  different ways of thinking, processing and learning.  It is also clear that children need their Orton-Gillingham methods within their school day, freeing up their evening for activities and family time.  So began L.A.M.P.  Micro-School,  Learning and Mentoring Program, hoping to be a small light, influence and guide for our students, homeschooling families and the community.  We offer a small environment where each child can receive a curriculum that is right for them; individual help wherever needed;  and encourage challenges above grade levels when they excel in areas.  There is no AVERAGE student, because every child is an individual.  Not one of them fits neatly into any box.  We are excited to see what God is going to do in our little micro-school!

TELL ME I will forget;

SHOW ME I might remember;

INVOLVE ME I will LEARN!
